Plight Of The Bumble Bee

With Brenda Castles Trio

"Plight of the Bumble Bee" is a compelling short film that takes you deep into the world of bees and their profound connection to Irish religion, folklore, and biodiversity. This thought-provoking documentary explores the vital role bees play in our ecosystems, the challenges they face, and how we can help ensure their survival.

The documentary features heartfelt interviews, including with the likes of Kilkenny native, 81-year-old Peter Walsh, who has been counting bees in the same spot in Kilkenny since 1959, and Skerries locals Charlie and Marion Heasman, who have created a remarkable 5km-long biodiversity corridor.

With a unique soundtrack of traditional Irish music composed by Brenda Castles and performed live with the film by Brenda on concertina, Tony Byrne on guitar, and Erin Hennessey on violin, Plight of the Bumble Bee is a tribute to nature, community, and resilience. Prepare to be inspired. Prepare to act. This is a story not just about bees—it’s about us all.

The documentary screening will be followed by a Q&A session with well known local bee expert Peter Walsh. There will also be free Mead samples courtesy of Kinsale Mead Co

Luka Bloom

Luka Bloom is an artist without equal. Uncompromising in his pursuit of the craft of songwriting, he has amassed a huge catalog of material in his more than fifty years of penning songs. A keen observer of the world around him, and a masterful storyteller.

And even if Luka were never to have written a song in his life, his guitar playing would still be more than enough to hold an entire audience spellbound.

On May 27th, Luka lauches 'A Second Wind', which I think is his 25th studio album by my count(But I stand to be corrected on this!!!). It was written and recorded in the months leading up to his trip to the Mater Hospital for open heart surgery last November. In Luka's own words the new album is "dedicated to the surgeon, doctors, nurses and staff, family and friends, who kept me alive in 2024".

We're extremely priviledged to have Luka return here to perform for us at The Seantí once again. Long may he continue to do so.
